Engineering Student Safety
A deep look at the computer vision, hardware, and software systems that power BusGuard's real-time detection capabilities.
Violation to alert.
In under 200 milliseconds.
Three discrete steps. No human intervention required.
Camera Detects Violation
Computer vision continuously monitors the stop arm and surrounding traffic. When the arm extends and a vehicle approaches, the system initiates analysis.
System Confirms Threat
The ML model validates the true positive in under 200ms, filtering out false positives from parked cars, cyclists, or other non-threatening movement.
Buzzer Alerts Students
An audible warning fires immediately through the onboard buzzer, and the incident is timestamped and logged for district reporting and compliance.
The stack behind the safety.
Custom-trained detection model
Computer Vision Core
Our proprietary computer vision model is trained specifically for stop-arm violation scenarios — accounting for bus geometry, arm extension angles, and vehicle trajectories. Achieves 95.3% true positive rate under real-world field conditions.
Built for bus environments
Hardened Hardware
The BusGuard unit is housed in a weatherproof enclosure rated for school bus mounting conditions — temperature extremes, vibration, and moisture. Designed to keep running through every route, every season.
Every violation on record
Incident Logging
BusGuard timestamps and stores every detected incident with full metadata — GPS location, image capture, vehicle speed estimate, and route ID — creating an audit trail for district reporting and legal compliance.
